Exposition

The purpose of this page is to give information to the readers about how things work in-story such as the power classification or how powers work. Everything here is to be considered canon over stuff in-story as in-story information is limited to what characters know and none of the characters know everything.

The difference between classification and rating is that classification describes what type of power the person has while rating tells how strong their power is.

Anglosphere Power Classification

Each power is given a classification or multiple ones if required. The parahuman is then given all of the classifications that their powers have.

Blaster - Ranged attacks. It includes self-generated energy attacks such as energy blasts or laser eyes in addition to boosting conventional ranged attacks such as given special proprieties to bullets or arrows,
Brute - Melee attacks. It includes super strength as well as empowered melee weapons such as swords and hammers.
Controller - Controlling others. It includes controlling or manipulating people, animals or items.
Gadgeteer - Creating items following the laws of physics. These creations are called gadgets and are either beyond modern technology or specialised, customised items using pre-existing technology.
Healer - Healing. It includes both self-healing in addition to healing others. It also includes enhanced stamina or endurance.
Manipulator - Manipulating the world around them. Includes controlling different elements as well as technopathy and telekinesis. Energy projection also falls under this.
Meta - Powers that relate to powers. It includes power copying, nullification, transferring and boosting in addition to granting pseudo-powers to others.
Morpher - Changing an item or person. It includes altering the form of oneself or another in addition to changing the form of an item or animal.
Mover - Movement. It includes any form of movement relating to a power including teleportation, flight and super speed.
Perceptor - It includes being able to detect or sense items or people. It includes super senses, tracking abilities and specialised senses attuned to detecting certain things.
Protector - Protecting oneself or others. It includes self-protection such nigh invulnerability or enhanced toughness and durability to protecting items or other people such as forcefields. It also includes protection against being detected such as invisible.
Spawner - Creating items or person out of thin air. It includes both making objects and creatures appear out of thin air in addition to being able to duplicate something that already exists.
Tinker - The art of creating items that are not physically possible. This includes creating equipment that is not physically possible to being able to invent spells or preform magic.
Thinker - Mental powers such enhanced intellect, being able to connect data together and being able to figure things out.

Some classifications might be split down into the sub-classifications External and Internal respectively. The former refers to powers that affect items or people other than the user while the latter refers to powers that affect the user and items on them.

Enhanced - Physical enhancement. This is a special power classification that the vast majority parahumans have. It classifies the new body that parahumans receive when they get their powers. It is a permanent change that cannot be undone and is their default form if they physical form is changed. It has four different sub-classifications.

Aphrodite/Adonis - The most common Enhanced power. While it does include physical enhancement, it primarily focuses on comfort and supernatural beauty. Aphrodites tend to have beauty features such as a complete lack of body hair from the neck down and large breasts that would normally be impractical, but the Aphrodites seem to lack these downsides as part of their power. Females are called Aphrodites while males are Adonises
Bellator - While it does render those with it generally good looking, it focuses on primarily on being fitter, tougher and stronger.
Abnormal - Humanoid in form, but with inhuman features such as wings or metal skin.
Monster - Non-humanoid forms.

The main difference between a Aphrodite or Adonis and a Bellator is that the former embodies from form while the latter embodies function. So while a Bellator girl would pretty, an Aphrodite girl would be drop dead gorgeous. On the flip side, the Bellator girl would be much more physical capable than the Aphrodite girl and could easily overpowered her in a fair fight.

Anglosphere Power Rating

Each power is given a rating. The level of each power is divided up into four different tiers with an extra level/tier for exceptionally strong powers. Within a tier, a power might be giving a plus or minus to indicate being either extra strong or weak for that tier. There is also a clear difference in power between the difference tiers.

D Class - The weakest tier. Powers at this level can be replicated using modern technology.
C Class - The most common tier. Powers a this tier outdo any normal human and are clearly supernatural.
B Class - The upper tier. Uncommon, but not rare, powers of this tier are both very strong and very versatile. At this tier, only another parahuman can hope to match them.
A Class - The strongest conventional power out there. Even parahumans in the lower tiers can't hope to match these parahumans. Powers of this level are the rarest, but have a tendency to cluster in an area.
Infinity - This tier contains the genuinely overpowered powers. This time would include true invulnerability, regenerating after their body has been destroyed and unrestricted time travel.

When says ratings with a plus or minus such as D+ Class or B- Class, they pronounced as "D Class Plus" and "B Class Minus" respectively.

Another thing to note is that while there Infinity Class parahumans in the setting and there is the Infinity Class rating in-universe, as far as people are concerned in-universe, the idea of there being Infinity parahumans is still theoretical.

Anglosphere Threat Rating

All law-breaking parahumans, including vigilantes, are given a threat ratings to determine how much of a threat they pose to the general public. Power levels aren't the only factor taken into account as both intentions and potential to be stopped are taken into consider amongst other factors when determining the threat rating of a parahuman.

The threat rating works similar to power ratings, including having a plus or minus to differentiate when a parahuman is particularly dangerous or non-threatening respectively within their threat class.

D Class - Lowest threat class, D Class threats pose only a minimal threat to society.
C Class - The most common threat rating for career criminals, C Class threats pose a serious danger to the public, but no more than serial killers and the like.
B Class - At this point power levels and how hard they are to stop start to become serious factors. Only other parahumans may take on B Class threats as normal humans aren't able to stop them.
A Class - The worse of conventional threats, A Class threats can threaten entire cities or even small countries.
S Class - These threats have the potential end the world as we know it and may only be stopped by the combined arms of parahuman humans.
X Class - Completely theoretical thankfully, X-Class threats are completely beyond the ability of any force on Earth to defeat.

Anglosphere Power Sets Types

As more and more people become parahumans, certain patterns within the power sets being manifested are being discovered and documented.

Brick -
Firepower -
Sherlock
Speedster -
Psychic
Gadgeteer - Gadgeteer Types are parahumans with a Gadgeteer power. They don't generally have other peoples or if they do, their secondary powers are rather mundane or related to their Gadgeteer speciality.
Healer - Healer Types are parahuman who have a power that allows them to heal others, usually physical injuries and they generally require physical contact. Healers don't usually have other powers or if they do, they are minor ones that are related to their main power.
Duplicator -
Null - Null Types are parahumans who have a power that nullifies or otherwise neutralises the powers of other parahumans. Nulls generally don't have additional powers as per the nature of their powers.
Reality Warper - Reality Warper Types are the most feared parahumans. They have powers that allow them to simply alter reality out of the blue.

Parahuman Theories

The Triggs Principle - Documented and published by Australian university professor Preston Triggs, the Triggs Principle says that the power of parahuman will either be internal, only effecting the parahuman themselves, or external, affecting the world surrounding parahuman such as the terrain, other people and the nature. While almost universal in lower level parahumans, that are plenty of examples of higher tier parahumans ignoring the Triggs Principle. Critics of the Triggs Principle state these examples of why the Principle is incorrect while propontents point out that much is still unknown about parahumans and all of those higher tier parahumans have multiple powers, meaning that one power that ignores the Triggs Principle could easily be more than one power following it, but mistaken for just a single power.

The Thatcher Effect - Named after the English researcher who documented it, the Thatcher theory states that that those with a strong connection, such as familial ties or close friendship, to a parahuman are more likely to manifested powers of their own. It also states that more links that a person has, the stronger their powers will be. The Thatcher Effect can be seen throughout the different power levels of parahumans, but is more obvious in higher level parahumans. The Fowler family in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA are a prime example of the Thatcher Effect in practice.

The Bode Effect - The Bode Effect is a limitation found in lower tier parahumans. Discovered by the German Doctor Ernst Gustav Bode, the Bode Effect claims that lower tier powers either effect organic or inorganic material. This means that if they effect one, they can't the other. For example, a ferrokinetic that can control metal would be unable to control the iron and other metals in the human body. That isn't to say that the Bode Effect means that powers are only effect organic or inorganic material, only that the power can directly effect one or the other. The difference would be the different between a pyrokinetic burning somebody with flames they generated around their hands to burning somebody by generating those flames out of the victim or within the victim's body. As noted above, the Bode Effect is only found in some of the parahumans and sometimes is only partially found in a parahuman as they might have some powers that follow the Bode Effect while the rest of their powers ignore it.
